Mateusz Bezwiński: A motivation to work harder

Mateusz Bezwiński, a product of our youth system, has scored his second goal this season in a 4:3 win against GKS Katowice. He thanks the coach for trusting in him and putting him in the starting lineup. – There was a lot of pressure in the beginning, but it shrunk with every minute. I was extremely motivated and encouraged – said Mateusz.

You played in the starting lineup in Katowice. You must have realized that it is a great opportunity to show yourself to the coach and spend some more time on ice?

For sure. I was extremely motivated and encouraged. It also is an impulse to train harder and play better.

    Was there some pressure?

To play in the starting lineup alongside players such as Taavi Tiala or Erik Němec was a big challenge, so naturally there was pressure. The more we understood each other’s play, the more the pressure shrunk.

Your second goal is a sign of your rising form and some kind of payback to the coach.

I believe each game is a step forward and, as I said, an impulse to work harder.

Despite trailing by two goals in Katowice you were able to come up on top. How did you motivate yourselves during the intermissions?

We are one team and we support each other. You know, chin up and go for it. I think such difficult situations help bring the team together and further motivate it.

Many players say that your play has greatly improved after the international break. What do you think has changed?

It sure looks a lot better. We analyse every game and try to improve those elements that were not good. I think we’re making steady progress and every game is better than the previous.

League schedule doesn’t slow down, next Sunday you’re playing in Nowy Targ. Do you already have a plan to beat your local rival?

It’s going to be a tough and physically demanding game, Podhale is a great team, especially at home. We just have to play our game, we know their strengths and weaknesses. If we exploit them we can win for the second time in a row.

CANPACK Hockey Academy is recruiting once again. You are a living example of a Hockey Academy graduate who now plays a significant role in the team. How would you encourage the kids to come train at Cracovia?

Hockey is a beautiful and dynamic sport that’s a lot of fun and develops both your mind and body. Come to the training, try, and you won’t regret it.
